The rain is falling hard outside
sight and sound carries me away
to a girl's love I'll always cherish
as if it was only yesterday.
I return to her laughter then
as we ran through the rain
through the park towards her house
to spend some time again.

We stopped under the willow tree
a shelter from the elements
I recall looking into her eyes
thinking she had to be heavensent.
She told me the secret of her heart
as the raindrops fell all around
time froze in place for us there
as if we were on some holy ground.

Her arms wrapped around my neck
she held my face to her cheek
a whisper, "I've always loved you"
so breathless, I couldn't speak.
"I'm yours forever", I confessed
I meant it from my heart true
no one but us could share this love
though there was one thing left to do.

"Kiss me please", she said at last
"Kiss me now before the rain ends,
and when the sun comes out to shine
kiss me again and again."
We smiled and cried all at once
and without another spoken word
Two hearts melted straight into one
and I placed my lips to hers.

Imagine the storm all around us
drops of rain coming off the leaves
young lovers embracing oblivious
to the world not under this tree.
The kiss seemed to last forever
eyes closed, holding tight for life
nothing else before or ever since
had felt so beautiful or been so right.

And now too many years later
I can still taste her kiss on mine
everytime I catch a raindrop
and savor it on my lips like wine.
Because when it rains in the world
it's a reminder that love will stay
within my heart where she lives
in a memory scene from a rainy day.

Heart light, shine across the sea to my love
In anticipation of things only she can dream of
Let her see the flame burning for her alone
This unquenchable fire she's never known
The sign of my affection sent upon a page
Written "I love you" in this turbulent age
For she may look all her life, yet never see

I dream of the fallen
and I wish I too would fall
so far and deep in love
until I need not dream at all.
For in every lonely thought
there is nothing more than this,

and captured by a kiss.

Too much time is wasted
on things that don't matter much
and that is why I dream
of the love I long to touch,
for what is more important
than the poetry of chance
